Digitalization

With the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) used at DGS casting parts are automatically scanned with a QR code at the relevant machines and checked for validation of processing in almost real-time. This ensures that workflows are adhered by and furhter avoids unnecessary waste in the value-chain.
At the same time, the most important key figures are made available for the production management.

Operational -and machine data collection

  • The data collection for equipment controls is automatically done by MES
  • Manual operations are entered into the system by the employees via dedicated terminals in production
  • The MES system provides the production management in real-time with the most important key figures such as OEE, downtimes and scrap rate
  • The machine control center gives a comprehensive overview of the machine park to initiate immediate actions in cause of disruptions

Single-part traceability

  • The traceability system ensures that all parts delivered to customers are systematically documented for each indivudal part with the most important parameters for each process step

  • Prevention of waste in the value-chain by means of validation logic for each operation (digital poka-yoke)

  • Transparency of data in order to optimize processes

  • Shorter reaction times thanks to real-time feedback from the MES system and thus faster intervention in case of quality deviations

  • Support of the zero-defect strategy

Automation

  • In recent years, DGS has invested heavily in the automation of complex, combined processes
  • Highly complex parts can thus be increased quickly with the required process stability and critical process parameters can be documented at individual part level
  • An intelligent, driverless automatic transport system for goods carriers is also used in production

Data Mining / SmartFactory

  • An innovation project in regard to SmartFactory is currently being pursued in our St. Gallen plant which is intended to enable precise part quality prediction on the die-casting machines using data analytic algorithms
  • In the future machine settings shall also be adjusted in a self-regulating manner using AI (artificial intelligence)
  • In addition, more and more processes are gradually being digitized in the administrative areas and integrated into the group-wide ERP system
